Access to all files is essential for you to work from anywhere and on any device. You need to have access to all your business information, online and offline.
Mobile professionals and digital natives expect it. OneDrive is a great choice. OneDrive is Microsoft 365’s intelligent files app. It allows you to access, share, collaborate and manage all of your files anywhere and on any device.
Let’s look at 5 top benefits to using OneDrive sync client.
1. Stay connected and be productive
OneDrive makes it easy to sync your content between your Mac and your PC. This allows you to securely and quickly access files from any location, even when you’re offline.
OneDrive allows you to easily sync files on your desktop.
When you return online, all your edits and files will be automatically synchronized to OneDrive for Mac. Your files can be viewed and edited from your desktop. Access to these files is available for everyone.
“Known folder move” lets you easily back up your Windows folders like Desktop and Documents to OneDrive. It also allows for seamless File Explorer and the power and simplicity that OneDrive offers to those folders.
With Known Folder Movement, you can back-up your Windows folders like Desktop and Documents.
OneDrive allows you to sync IRM-protected files. It also supports differential sync (currently only for Office files, but rolling out to ALL file formats). This saves time and bandwidth.
All these scenarios are supported by virtualized desktop environments, which persist between sessions.
2. Space is more important when there are more files
Are you worried about whether your storage is sufficient as you take more photos and create more files? OneDrive doesn’t make it any easier.
OneDrive Files Available on Mac and PC lets you access your OneDrive files on demand. You don’t need to change your work habits because all files can be viewed in File Explorer or Mac Finder.
All of these functions can be extended to your shared library. “Shared libraries”, SharePoint document libraries, are linked via Office 365 Groups. They can also be accessed via SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
OneDrive sync client now supports Windows Server 2019 and Files on-Demand. OneDrive can now be used in virtual desktop environments by users who use Files On Demand.
3. Access other than your individual files or folders
OneDrive can be described as Microsoft 365’s files app. It allows you access all your shared content, including SharePoint and Microsoft Teams. OneDrive makes it possible to sync files and folders between shared libraries you have within your company. This allows you to create a secure and ubiquitous productivity experience across OneDrive, SharePoint, and other platforms.
You can also sync files that were shared by other organizations (B2B). This means you can sync content not only from your colleagues within your organization but also from customers, partners and suppliers outside your organization.
Two quick notes to admins regarding B2B Sync-
Azure Active Directory (AAD), guest account play a crucial role in B2B cooperation.
A guest account in one organization can link to a member’s account at another. This allows them to access content from both their own organization as well as from other organizations who have created guest accounts.
4. Monitor your files, and take syncing actions
OneDrive Activity Center – This is where you can find all of your OneDrive activity. It can be accessed by right-clicking the OneDrive cloud icon on the task bar for Windows or the menu bar for Mac.
Activity Center helps you manage settings for accounts syncing from your device. You can also pause sync or resolve a sync problem if one is present. To help you quickly fix sync problems such as missing files or folder names, we have added in-app solutions. Microsoft experts are available via the “Get Help” option. You can also send us feedback and request assistance through the Activity Center.
The “mass deletion prompt” was introduced earlier in the year. If more than 200 synced documents are deleted from your device at once, the sync clients will notify you and ask you to confirm that it was an accident. You can tap “Restore Files” if the deletion was accidental. Otherwise, tap delete to remove them.
5. Admins: Personalize your sync experience using effective policies
As usual, we’ve saved the best for final!
Windows devices can be configured with a set GPOs that allow or prohibit syncing OneDrive accounts to specific organizations. The list includes tenant IDs. You can also configure the maximum speed at the OneDrive sync clients can upload or down files. Also, you can adjust the upload performance by specifying the percent of the computer’s upload throughput that OneDrive sync clients can use to upload files.
You can also set rules in the admin center that allow you to sync devices with selected domains and prevent certain file types from being downloaded.
