Here’s the basic information about Jerry Lorenzo’s legendary Fear of God brand, that has become a staple in the world of streetwear.
Fear of God creator Jerry Lorenzo has a long and winding career. He’s worked at a store in the stockroom of the company Diesel to handling scholarship and partnerships with The Los Angeles Dodgers, to managing Dodgers star Matt Kemp — he even held lavish parties to attract athletes and rappers. With the cash he earned from these events, Lorenzo then began producing clothing.
The first was the hoodie, which was short-sleeved, that had zippers on the side Then he moved onto the elongated tshirt and much more. In the year 2012 Lorenzo was able to sell his designs to Big Sean — through the connections to his wife. The result was Ye who was then Kanye West — contacting Lorenzo for a consultation on the collection he was creating using A.P.C. The conversation would develop into an ongoing relationship in which Lorenzo developed tour merchandise in support of Yeezy, Donda and many other projects.
God vs Fear God in contrast to God’s Fear vs God Essentials
In the year 2015 Fear of God was growing rapidly and was becoming among the top sought-after streetwear brands. Always an entrepreneur, the only thing Lorenzo was looking to make his clothing more accessible . He ended up working with PacSun to launch an affordable brand known as F.O.G. When asked to explain why he took the choice to enter the market more easily, Lorenzo said to The Cut: “I have many family members who go to PacSun than I do at Barneys To be honest I’d like to be somewhere that my family and friends can come to visit me and feel proud of my accomplishments.” F.O.G. was a staple for a couple of years and then in 2018, Lorenzo chose to shut down the company in favor of Essentials.
Essentials like the name suggests, makes collections of pieces that are simple in soft tones. While F.O.G. was basically a cheaper variant that Fear of God, Essentials was Lorenzo’s effort to categorize his creations. Since its debut, Essentials has grown in popularity and as the streetwear lovers will confirm, it’s the most effective way to access the designs of Lorenzo.
