Hello and welcome to live coverage of Everton vs Leicester City from Goodison Park.
In one of the most unpredictable Premier League seasons in recent memory, tonight’s teams are sitting high in the table and looking to break the established order.
Speaking ahead of the match, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti made clear qualifying for the Champions League was a target for them.
“I think the Champions League is the best competition in the world. As I said when I arrived here, to take Everton into the Champions League is a fantastic motivation for me personally. It’s a great desire,” he said.
“It will be important for us to understand where we want to be. We want to fight for the top six, the top four. We’re going to play at home these next two games and after Saturday we know where we’ll be.
“The Premier League is competitive this season. There are teams like us, like West Ham, like Southampton who are not used to staying (in the top six). For these clubs, it’s really exciting to fight with the usual top teams.”
Leicester will be without striker Jamie Vardy after he underwent an operation on his hernia.
That means the onus will be on in-form James Maddison and Youri Tielemans to provide the attacking edge for the away side.
But manager Brendan Rodgers has no doubts about the duo’s quality and expects them to play a bigger role in all areas on the pitch by leading by example.
“I’ve tried to promote that here. You encourage them to take that. I’ve been happy with the leadership qualities they are showing,” he said.
“Youri (Tielemans) understands what I want and plays with a real authority. James Maddison is doing the same. We’ve tried to promote the players having a voice.”
