Cast iron gutters don’t rust, corrode or have other advantages than aluminum gutters. The marine grade aluminium we use is specially designed to resist corrosion caused by salt spray on roads and in marine environments. This means that gutters can last many years with minimal maintenance.
Here are some advantages to using cast aluminium guttering:
Cast aluminium weighs less than cast iron making it much easier and faster to install.
Our gutters have a lower cost than their cast-iron counterparts.
Our cast aluminium gutter systems are intended to last at minimum 25 years when used in normal domestic applications.
We offer many styles of gutter systems that can be used to complement any type of property, including Victorian, Edwardian or Georgian.
All of our products can be ordered in a wide variety of polyester powder coated colours, as well traditional heritage colours.
Cast aluminium is an environment-friendly choice because it can be reused many times. Furthermore, our products can be made from recycled aluminium.
Cast aluminum combines elegance and style with modern strength, durability and strength.
It is difficult to tell the difference in powder coated aluminium from cast iron guttering. This makes cast aluminium perfect for use on period houses and buildings.
Aluminium Gutters Are Worth It
1. Lightweight
Aluminium is lightweight metal and weighs approximately 2.7g/cm3. It has a density about one third that of steel or cast iron. A cast iron gutter system can be more difficult and dangerous to install than an aluminium one. A square square of cast iron downpipe can be over 30kg, while a square square of aluminium downpipe weighs less than 5kg.
2. Impact resistance
Aluminium is extremely strong, despite being light in weight. An example of this is an aluminum downpipe that dents upon impact. However, the force from the impact is absorbed into the deformation. Cast iron and plastic downpipes could crack under impact, and will need to be immediately replaced. Although the downpipe of aluminium may have been damaged, it doesn’t need to be replaced.
3. Corrosion resistance
Aluminum is naturally coated with a protective oxide, which makes it highly resistant to corrosion. Powder coating improves this property and gives it a lifetime of about 30 years with minimal upkeep.
4. UV Radiation Resistance
Aluminium is resistant the UV radiation of the sun. Plastic gutters and downpipes will brittle with time and can suffer colour fading.
5. Temperature and Fire Resistance
The properties of aluminumm are constant at temperatures from -80degC up to +150degC. Aluminium’s hardness increases in extreme cold making it harder. Aluminium is not combustible so it is considered a non-combustible material. Aluminium can be melted at temperatures between 600-650°C but it will not emit harmful gases. Plastic becomes more fragile when it freezes. Plastic can quickly melt and ignite in the event of a fire. The fire will spread throughout the area, emitting toxic gasses into it.
6. Minimal maintenance
It is easy to maintain a powder coated aluminium rainwater tank. Maintain the gutters free of leaves and debris, and clean the surfaces once a year with warm soapy tap water to prolong their life span. Cast iron should be repainted every 5-7years to prevent rust. This can be expensive and time-consuming.
7. Recyclable
Aluminium is 100% recyclable and does not lose its original qualities. A re-melting process of aluminium takes only 5 percent of the energy required for its initial production, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
