Power BI is an amazing tool for companies that want to organize, launch, or grow their business intelligence efforts. The Microsoft product is a well-known and highly valued data analytics platform. It is no surprise that Microsoft was named a leader for 14 years in the “2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant For Analytics and BI Platforms”.
What makes Power BI so unique? These are the seven main benefits of utilising a Power Bi service:
Power BI provides business intelligence for everyone
Power BI makes data interactive (interactivity).
Secure Power BI
Power BI connects easily to many data sources
Power BI is capable of artificial intelligence
Power BI is continually improved
Power BI apps are a great way to share content
Let’s look at these benefits more closely.
1. Power BI provides Business Intelligence for Everyone
Power BI’s greatest benefit is its ability to empower organizations of all sizes to create data-driven cultures. Data-driven cultures are those where decisions are based on data and not emotions or gut.
Power BI is a business intelligence tool that helps companies achieve this task. It seamlessly puts business intelligence assets, such as dashboards and real-time reports, into the hands of all employees (if required) within an organization. The result is that the entire company can now make decisions based upon real-time, trustworthy data.
Power BI currently offers two versions of Power BI Desktop as well as the Power BI Service. Power BI Desktop can be downloaded by anyone within an organization and used immediately. Power BI Desktop allows users to connect to data and create rich visualization reports.
These reports can be published as dashboards to the Power BI cloud version. Reports can be published to the Power BI service as dashboards that can be accessed by any user on any device.
2. Power BI brings data to life (interactivity)
Data can be really valuable when it provides useful business insights and stories that aid decision-makers in making better decisions.
Power BI makes data visual. Power BI allows users to connect their data and select from a variety visualizations (column and pie charts, bubble- and heat maps and scatter plots). To share and gain insights, users can tell stories about their data.
These visualizations are easy to implement. Power BI’s functionality allows you to drag and reposition visuals in order to create informative, well-organized reports or dashboards.
These visualizations can also be interactive which is a major benefit of Power BI. Customers can filter dashboards and reports, and then watch as their visualizations adapt and update in seconds to satisfy their filter requirements. This allows them to gain greater insight from their data.
3. Power BI is Secure
Power BI offers a variety of security features that allow users to protect sensitive data and comply with various compliance and security standards. Power BI uses Microsoft’s Cloud App Security feature to protect sensitive information. This “provides rich visibility and control over data travel and sophisticated analytics to identify, combat, and defeat cyberthreats across your Microsoft and third party cloud services”.
Power BI’s sensitivity label feature allows admins to easily alert consumers and users about sensitive data/information that should be treated differently. This popular Microsoft product has encryption features to further protect data.
Power BI’s row level security (RLS), which developers have access to, allows them to create roles and assign different roles to different users. This security feature is very useful for companies that have sensitive data.
4. Power BI Connects Easily to Many Data Sources
This benefit of Power BI is not something I will be focusing too much on. This robust data analytics platform connects to many data sources, including file data sources such as Excel and CSV, database sources such as Snowflake and Oracle databases, and online data sources such Salesforce and Adobe Analytics.
Power BI integrates well with Excel, allowing you to easily transfer all your Excel queries, data models and reports to Power BI without having to learn a new language or application.
5. Power BI offers Artificial Intelligence Capabilities
Power BI has artificial intelligence capabilities that enable users to extract more value from their data and reports. Developers can access three powerful AI visualizations to help them dig deeper into their data, generate insights, and identify patterns that might be difficult to find.
6. Power BI is Continuously Improved
Microsoft continues to invest time and money in Power BI to make it the best data analytics platform. The tool is constantly updated with new features, and the existing features are regularly improved and tweaked.
7. Power BI Apps – An excellent way to share content
Power BI apps are the last Power BI benefit that I will mention in this blog article.
Power BI apps are a convenient way for report developers, to distribute Power BI content with large groups or just one person.
