Boosting Your Presence On Instagram

There are many new apps popping up every day, but Instagram is still a vital part of any brand’s social media arsenal. Some companies are able to take advantage of this photo-sharing app. Bonobos, a men’s clothing brand, balances product, office, and production shots with photos of city life and occasional events. Edelman, a public relations firm, mixes photos of employees and clients with clear graphics and quotes. Taco Bell often has product in every snap but does it in a cool and funny way.

These tips will help you increase your brand’s visibility, and improve the quality of your posts regardless of how many followers you have.

1. Keep your posts consistent. Do not leave it longer than a few days between posts. You might get forgotten about. It’s easier to add photos when you have a regular routine.

2. Be nice and get noticed. Some people don’t have a large fan base. Look for hashtags that match your business. Own a pizza parlor? Look for pizza photos and click ‘like’ to comment. They’ll be excited to see you checking them out, and may even follow you. How about launching a clothing line? Comment on the fashion choices of a user. It’s amazing what kind of relationships you can build. It is important to be sincere and not pushy (“Please follow my! “Please follow me!” is never a good idea.

3. You can also edit outside of Instagram. There are many filters on Instagram, but they can sometimes be a bit too many. When it comes to editing, simplicity is the best. There are a few editing apps you might like to try. VSCOcam lets you adjust the intensity of your filter and offers tools to adjust the temperature, contrast, and exposure. It takes some time to get used to but it’s great once you get the hang of it. Instagram requires you to crop photos into squares. Instasize allows you to use the entire image. Over allows you to add clean text to your photo or stock artwork. You can purchase additional fonts and artwork. Pic Stitch and Diptic make photo collages. Tip: Collage should not contain more than four photos. If you do not, the photos will be too small for your followers to view what’s happening.

4. Go outside. No matter if your business is located in New York City, or Billings, Mont. It’s your chance to show it off! This applies to your workplace, pets, and co-workers. This will bring variety to your feed, and it will help your followers get to know you better.

5. Chat with customers. Are you selling a tangible product or service? Make a hashtag and have your customers repost their photos. Host contests. Comment.

6. Use hashtags with care. Use hashtags sparingly in your captions. Make a second comment to your photo using several relevant hashtags. This list can be saved to your phone in Notes.

7. Complete your profile. Although it may seem obvious, your profile is crucial. Keep it brief and to the point. Include your website. This is the only location that has a clickable hyperlink.

8. Keep track of your stats. Statigram allows you to view and track your stats, as well as search for photos. Analyze the data to see which posts are performing well and when they are most active.

Keep your eyes on the prize, but be flexible. Keep doing what you love if it works. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
